BOA Bridge Watch: What It Is And Why We Did It?

As a company we are situated in Bradford on Avon and some of our staff cross the bridge on a daily basis, so we thought it would be a good idea to help them and the local community to see how the river levels could affect their journey, homes and businesses.

There has already been a lot of disruption to the town caused by the high levels of the River Avon and our regular updates will allow people to stay up to date with the latest conditions in Bradford on Avon. In fact, the bridge made national news on the BBC because of the disruption it had caused so we thought it would be great to allow people to see the state of the river regularly throughout the day.

MD of Varn, Tom Vaughton said, “The floods have really disrupted the local businesses around Bradford on Avon but when the Town Bridge becomes submerged it cuts off a main artery for traffic in the region so it’s a serious problem. As we are a local company that specialises in web design and search engine marketing we realised we were in a good position to do something for the town’s community and for people travelling here. As well as the camera, we can manage the social media updates, responses and online awareness regards to changes in the river level.”

We have partnered with the Bridge Tea Rooms to provide imagery and updates for the local community and for those people that regularly travel to work and schools via this iconic bridge.

Roy Howard, owner of the Bridge Tea Rooms, commented: “We have always wanted to be able to monitor the river for years but we didn’t know how to go about it, so when Varn said they could set it all up we were delighted. This is going to be a really useful tool for people who want to know if they can get to work or use the bridge for access during the floods, or when it snows.”

We have provided a page on our website for you to check the weather and the condition of the bridge and you can find it here: https://varn.co.uk/boa-bridge-watch/
