Introducing Facebook Shops: a new way to buy and sell

Many businesses are now looking towards digital methods as a way of keeping their business afloat and reaching new customers, Facebook has been keeping up with this trend and has been creating new tools to support businesses who are using Facebook to reach customers.

In their latest bid to help businesses strengthen their digital presence, Facebook has launched Facebook Shops, a tool which they hope will make buying and selling online easier for everyone. This is now rolling out in the US, with it set to expand to other countries after that.

What is it?

Facebook Shops is a mobile-first shopping experience which allows businesses to create an online store within the platform for free. Shops lets retailers choose which of their items they want to feature on the store as well as creating product collections, and they can then add images, change fonts, and customise colours. They are also trialling the shopping platform on Instagram currently, with this expected to roll out later in the year.

Facebook has added, “Facebook Shops make it easy for businesses to set up a single online store for customers to access on both Facebook and Instagram. Creating a Facebook Shop is free and simple. Businesses can choose the products they want to feature from their catalogue and then customise the look and feel of their shop with a cover image and accent colours that showcase their brand. This means any seller, no matter their size or budget, can bring their business online and connect with customers wherever and whenever it’s convenient for them.”

Businesses will be able to connect with customers via WhatsApp, Messenger or Instagram Direct to answer questions, offer support and more. There are also plans to add more advanced features such as loyalty programmes. Facebook has said that they are also working with partners such as Shopify and  WooCommerce to give small businesses the tools and support they need to build and grow their online presence.
